Ramla Today
General Review:
The city of Ramla is located in the coastal area in the center
of the country, on important crossroads both paved and rail,
on the main route between Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem which is also
the main route connecting north and south.
Alongside Ramlas old buildings and narrow winding allies that
were inherited from the past, are modern housing with spacious
streets, public parks and sidewalks adorned with lively flora.

Ramla roughly reaches 75 meters above the Mediterranean sea level.
The west part is slightly higher than the eastern part and
roughly reaches 80 meters.
The city is located about 18Km from Jaffas shore, enjoys a first rate
healthy climate and gets plenty of rain.
The amount of yearly rain may reach 500 cubic meters, the soil is
fertile and the city is surrounded with plantations and fields
of grain.
Ramlas water is supplied by the MEKOROT company.
In the near east lies the great pipeline that leads from ROSH-HAAYIN
to the south and also through the city's region passes another large
water carrier that leads from the Jordan river to the NEGEV area.

Ramla has an excellent viewpoint across the Judia and Samaria mountans
that rise in the east and the surrounding area is rich with many
well-known historical locations.
Most of Ramlas residents are Jews from many different countries
who settled in at the time the state was founded.
These blend in the Hebrew Israeli culture together with other
minorities such as Muslums and Christians of different sect who
have lived in the city for many generations.
Clearly seen from the rooftops across the blue horizon are a
Mosque tower and a pointed tower of a Catholic monastery that
shows how important the city is to the Muslums and its sacredness
to the Christians.
Sources for providing work to Ramlas residents are the usual grocery
store, craftmanship, small commerce, agriculture and jobs in local
industrial factories. Other fields of employment include Lods train
station which is Israel's most important railroad junction and Lods
great BEN-GURION airport that serves a station for many international
airways.

The city of Ramla has a special emblem: A branch, coged weel and
a star of David representing ambition towards agriculture and industry.
Ramla is the capital of the central region, one of the six regions
in the state of Israel supervised by the interior ministry.
Ramla houses the office of the manager in charge of the county, the
vice manager, county officer, officer in charge of minority groups,
regional office for planning and the regional office for imigration
and registration.
The central region includes the Tel-Aviv region in the west,
the Haifa region up north, the Jerusalem region in the east and the
region of BEER-SHEVA and the south.
