                                 Education and Youth Department

The modern age puts up a difficult and complex challenge for the education systems – preserving the teaching of values and the love of Israel along with new development and technological and educational innovation to prepare the students for life in a future society. Therefore, the municipality of Ramla has put the investment in education at the top of its priority list. The residents of the city and its students are enjoying quality educational systems, innovative learning programs, computerized schools and equal and progressive education that give every student a chance to succeed.

The activities of the Education and Youth Department of the Ramla municipality have received great appreciation from professionals, parents and students. The city's educational facilities are a "pilgrimage site" for various educational factors from across the country. The education department invests plenty of resources in the care for the city's educational facilities, for children from kinder garden age all the way until high school, by offering enrichment programs in various fields of interest as well as reinforcing and promoting the educational aspect and adjusting the educational environment and teaching methods to the needs and challenges of the 21st century.

A complementary educational system for students and youth operates alongside with the formal educational system.

                             Psychological-Educational service

The psychological educational service is a professional department within the Education and Youth department, and its purpose is to provide psychological services for the entire educational system of Ramla, as well as a professional response for the needs of the community in this field.

The emphasis is on professional and accessible psychological services for the entire educational community.

Responsibilities:

The Educational Psychological Service provides the educational facilities with a variety of psychological and educational services: performing diagnoses, advisory services for professionals, assisting in the implementation of violence prevention programs, preparing for and handling emergency situations.

The EPS assists the various educational frameworks in promoting educational processes in order to create optimal conditions for utilizing the children's emotional and intellectual potential.

The EPS works together with the school principals and the educational staff with a preventive approach aiming to improve the school's social climate.

The EPS offer professional counseling services, support and psychological therapy for the individuals, the family and the educational organization.

Services are given as a municipal service based on a community-oriented perception.

The EPS provides flexible professional assistance in psychological emergencies within the city.

Intervention is performed at the schools in accordance with the school emergency regulations. Intervention is performed at kinder gardens according to the EPS emergency work model. Emergency intervention works in cooperation with the welfare department working in city emergency teams for a mass disaster scenario. Promoting EPS staff training to better handle emergency situations using simulations. In addition, EPS arranges simulations with the school administration forum and educational staff. Inviting the director of the education and youth department for a demonstrational simulation for all principals within the educational system.

Complementary psychological service: the EPS also offers additional services for a fee: Care center for sexual abuse victims for a subsidized minimal fee of 10NIS per meeting for city residents (Subsidized cost is 200NIS).

District diagnostic center performing psycho-didactical diagnoses for junior high school and high school students subsidized via Ministry of Education scholarship funds (subsidized cost is 1700NIS).

Workshops and care groups for the city's children free of charge or for the subsidized fee of 10NIS per session; funded through foundations or the Pakt project or the Schmidt program.

To turn to the Educational Psychological Service:

The psychological service employs 18 psychologists providing psychological service for the education system: for schools and kinder gardens. Turning to us is done through the kinder garden teachers and school counselors who then coordinate meetings with the psychologists for the students and their parents. The meetings discreetly held at the station. Further sessions and diagnosis are performed by setting an appointment in advance with the therapist.

                                                                       Maintenance Unit
The unit is responsible for providing a response to the issues of maintenance in the municipality and specifically in the educational system. Among the issues handles by the unit are: electrical issues, care of the waterworks in the educational facilities and the municipality, handling safety failings, renovation and painting the educational facilities and the municipality, making and installing railings, stairways, bars and fences, shipping to the educational facilities and other public facilities within the city, preparation and handling city wide events.
