Sanitation and Business Licensing Department

The sanitation department is in charge of waste and foliage disposal, cleaning the city streets, parks mad the city market, pest control, and business and environmental licensing (see separately – environmental unit).

Sanitation Department's responsibilities:

Waste and foliage disposal:

• Emptying garbage carts and containers from all parts of the city, 3 times a week.
• Removing business an industrial waste.

Cleaning the streets and the market:

·         Cleaning main streets daily.

·         Cleaning city streets 2-3 times a week.

·         Emptying garbage cans.

·         Cleaning the city market daily, in the evening hours.

Pest control:

• Performing extermination of vermin, insects and mosquitoes.
• Herbarium Control
• Handling bees.

Water tests:

• The department has 2 water samplers that test the quality of the drinking water several times a week, as coordinated with the Health Ministry.

Useful information:

1. Every family living in a house adjacent to the ground is entitled to have their garbage container replaced every two years (subject to lack of debts to the municipality at the tax department).
2. Removing large amounts of business and industrial waste requires toll payment.
3. Leaving still water near the house may cause mosquito incubation – the water must be drained.
4. Foliage can be taken out on the evening before foliage disposal day and on the disposal day itself by 10:00 AM.
5. There is no need to throw away (intact) old furniture and appliances: dial 108 for the municipal hotline as ask to donate to the needy. The municipality's representatives will arrive to take away your equipment.
